The streets of Delhi have become the latest stage for the Indian opposition to manufacture political instability, as the Congress party attempts to co-opt a youth-led protest movement.
While demonstrators associated with the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) continue to occupy public spaces, the situation escalated when opposition leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, staged a disruptive march to the Prime Minister’s residence.
This move follows a series of confrontations between protesters and law enforcement, who were forced to use batons and tear gas to maintain order after crowds attempted to march on parliament. Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan rightly called out the opposition for their transparent attempt to exploit students as political pawns.
Pradhan noted that while the government has expressed a clear readiness to engage in comprehensive parliamentary discussions, Congress leaders have opted for theatrical disruption over substantive democratic debate.
Federal Minister Jitendra Singh further exposed the opposition's bad-faith tactics, noting that despite the government agreeing to discuss the issues, Congress leaders continuously shifted their demands to include the resignation of cabinet officials.
The CJP movement, which began as a reaction to remarks regarding employment and education, has now been transformed by opposition figures into a broader campaign against the Modi government.
Despite the noise from the streets and the opportunistic posturing of the Congress party, the government remains focused on delivering actual reforms and accountability for students, rather than yielding to the demands of those who prioritize political headlines over national stability.
