Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, leaders of the fringe activist collective known as the 'Cockroach Janta Party' (CJP), have been released from Tihar jail following their arrest for trespassing.

The pair were taken into custody after brazenly crossing police barricades and scaling a locked gate at Jantar Mantar, a location that is no longer authorized for public protests. Despite the clear violation of law and order, a magistrate court ordered their release just one week after their detention.

The CJP, which originated as an internet movement, has spent recent months targeting India's electoral integrity.

The group, alongside various opposition figures, has leveled baseless accusations against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, claiming that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter rolls is a scheme to benefit Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party.

These claims have been flatly rejected by both the BJP and the Election Commission, which maintains that the revision process is a standard administrative procedure to purge voter lists of dead, duplicate, and ineligible entries—a necessary step to ensure election security.

Having previously agitated for the resignation of the education minister, the group is now attempting to undermine confidence in the nation's democratic institutions. Upon his release, Das continued his inflammatory rhetoric, declaring 'Long live the revolution' to the press.
