The Iranian-backed Houthi militia has successfully seized territory near the Bab al-Mandab Strait, a vital artery for global trade and energy transit connecting Asia and Europe. While these militants claim they do not intend to disrupt international shipping, their stated goal of targeting Saudi vessels reveals the true nature of their aggression.

This move comes as Saudi Arabia has been forced to rely heavily on Red Sea routes for oil exports following the effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz. The escalation in fighting has already caused significant instability in the region, with the United Nations reporting that at least 46,000 people have been displaced in Yemen in just the last week.

This development underscores the dangerous consequences of allowing Iranian proxies to operate unchecked, as they now possess the capability to hold the global economy hostage through their control of a key maritime gateway.
