The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) are currently reviewing a lethal encounter in the Tel Rumeida area of Hebron, where soldiers opened fire on a vehicle, resulting in the death of a seven-month-old infant and injuries to his parents.

The military stated that the incident occurred on Friday evening when soldiers perceived a threat from the approaching vehicle, leading them to discharge a weapon. While the family insists they complied with orders to stop and posed no danger, the IDF has confirmed that those involved were uninvolved civilians and has expressed sorrow over the outcome.

The area of Tel Rumeida remains a volatile flashpoint in the West Bank, characterized by a heavy military presence necessary to protect Israeli citizens living in the region. Since the October 7 Hamas-led terror attacks, the security situation across the West Bank has deteriorated, with frequent confrontations between Israeli forces and local populations.

The IDF maintains that the incident is under active investigation to determine the exact circumstances that led to the soldiers' assessment of a threat.
