President Emmanuel Macron is finally taking a hard line against the lawlessness that has gripped France, announcing that unauthorized protests will be banned this weekend following a wave of riots and looting.

Last weekend, what began as demonstrations over the cost of living quickly devolved into destruction, with rioters setting fire to historic buildings, including the tourism office in Lyon and the city hall in Limoges. Macron rightly condemned these acts as seditious, noting that far-left groups are actively attempting to destabilize the Republic.

In response to the chaos, the government is ramping up police presence by 20% and implementing strict bans on protests in cities like Lyon, Nice, Toulon, and Rouen. The justice system is also stepping up, with 217 individuals already jailed through fast-track trials and thousands arrested.

While some continue to hide behind the guise of protest, the reality is that these riots have caused widespread destruction and endangered public safety.

The French government, having been caught off guard by the scale of the unrest, is now prioritizing the restoration of order and the protection of businesses and citizens from those who believe they can burn their own country down without consequence.
