France is reeling from a surge of lawlessness as student protests have spiraled into violent riots, forcing authorities to make 164 arrests on Monday alone.
While student unions attempt to frame the blockades and vandalism as a 'legitimate response' to educational policy, Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez dismissed that narrative, characterizing the unrest as 'violence in its purest form.' Masked agitators, armed with fireworks and projectiles, have targeted security forces in a clear attempt to incite confrontation rather than engage in civil discourse.
Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu has rightly condemned the behavior, noting that fireworks and fires near schools endanger students and staff alike.
Despite the government's attempt to address educational concerns, the situation has been further inflamed by far-left agitators, including Jean-Luc Mélenchon’s France Unbowed party, which continues to encourage the expansion of these disruptive blockades.
With 180 schools affected and dozens of injuries reported among security forces and staff, it is clear that these are not typical protests, but a dangerous breakdown of public order that requires an uncompromising response from the state.
