The French political establishment is in a panic as the National Rally (RN) continues its historic ascent, and the left-wing media is responding with the only tactic they have left: character assassination.
Jordan Bardella, the RN president and potential future prime minister, has announced he will sue the left-wing website Mediapart for libel following the publication of unverified, decade-old allegations.
Mediapart claims to have 'authenticated' private conversations from 2013, yet they failed to produce a single screenshot or tangible piece of evidence to back their claims.
Bardella, who has spent his career helping Marine Le Pen modernize the party and distance it from the past, rightly condemned the hit piece as the opening salvo of a 'total war' designed to destabilize the RN’s legitimate bid for power. Marine Le Pen dismissed the report as a 'dirty trick' and a likely forgery, standing firmly behind her colleague.
The timing of this smear is no coincidence; it comes as the RN reaches new heights in the polls, with Le Pen currently positioned to crush her rivals in a presidential run-off.
While the radical left and their media allies attempt to resurrect ghosts of the past to stop the party's momentum, the RN continues to focus on the real threats facing France, including the rise of militant Islam.
As RN deputy Jean-Philippe Tanguy noted, the source of these tired accusations appears to be a disgruntled 'rabble' of individuals previously purged from the party for their actual extremist views. The establishment is terrified of a National Rally victory, and this latest fabrication is proof that they have run out of honest arguments.
