Accountability has finally arrived for Colin Gray, the father of the teenage shooter who murdered four people at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia. Judge Nicholas Primm sentenced Gray to 15 years in prison, explicitly rebuking him for his failure as a parent.
Despite clear warning signs—including his son’s previous questioning by police regarding online threats and a disturbing notebook detailing plans for violence—Gray chose to gift his son an AR-style rifle.
Prosecutors rightly argued that Gray was the one person who could have prevented the tragedy, yet he ignored the flashing warning lights and failed to secure weapons in his home.
While his son, 16-year-old Colt Gray, has already pleaded guilty to the murders of students Christian Angulo and Mason Schermerhorn, and teachers Richard Aspinwall and Cristina Irimie, the court made it clear that parental negligence of this magnitude carries severe legal consequences.
