The security of NATO's eastern flank remains a top priority as Estonian officials confirmed that a Romanian F-16 fighter jet intercepted and destroyed a drone that had violated its sovereign airspace.
Estonian Defence Minister Hanno Pevkur stated that the projectile, believed to be Ukrainian in origin, was tracked and neutralized after being diverted by Russian electronic jamming. The drone crashed into a marshy, forested area in central Estonia, narrowly missing residential structures.
While no damage was reported, the incident serves as a stark reminder of the escalating risks posed by the ongoing conflict in the region. Ukrainian officials acknowledged the incident, offering an apology to their Baltic allies and accusing Moscow of intentionally redirecting drones to provoke tensions and fuel propaganda.
Meanwhile, the Kremlin continues its pattern of disinformation, baselessly alleging that Baltic nations are facilitating Ukrainian strikes against Russian territory—a claim firmly rejected by Tallinn, Riga, and Vilnius.
