Elon Musk is moving to consolidate his industrial empire, confirming that special committees have been established at both Tesla and SpaceX to explore a potential mega-merger.
During a call with financial analysts, Musk expressed his belief that combining the two companies—valued at a combined $3.5 trillion—would yield significant advantages in the development of artificial intelligence, robotics, and advanced software.
While Musk acknowledged that he is a conflicted party and has recused himself from the committees, he noted that the synergy between Tesla’s manufacturing prowess and SpaceX’s rapid expansion into AI infrastructure makes a merger a logical step forward.
The potential deal faces a high hurdle, requiring approval from at least 50% of Tesla shareholders, and Musk cautioned that there is no guarantee an agreement will be reached. The announcement comes as Musk continues to streamline his operations, following the earlier integration of xAI and X into the SpaceX umbrella.
Despite the complexity of such a transaction, the market reacted favorably, with SpaceX shares climbing 8% and Tesla shares rising 2% in after-hours trading.
As Musk pushes to integrate these companies, he remains focused on the long-term goal of securing American technological dominance in space and computing, regardless of the noise from critics or the political scrutiny surrounding his satellite networks.
