The violence in Sudan has reached a new level of depravity as the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) launched a drone strike on a camp for displaced people in the Abu Shandi area of the Blue Nile region. According to the Emergency Lawyers group, the attack claimed the lives of 41 individuals, including women and children.
This strike is merely the latest chapter in a devastating power struggle that has raged between the Sudanese army and the RSF since 2023. The conflict has already displaced over 14 million people and resulted in hundreds of thousands of deaths, creating a humanitarian crisis of historic proportions.
While international bureaucrats at the UN express their typical shock, the reality on the ground remains a brutal contest for territorial control. The RSF, which maintains its headquarters in Darfur, continues to exert its influence through lethal force, while the Sudanese army holds sway over much of the central and eastern regions.
As both sides continue to utilize drone warfare, the civilian population remains trapped in the crossfire of a conflict that shows no signs of abating.
