The Chadian military has taken decisive action to neutralize Boko Haram militants, conducting intensive air strikes in the Lake Chad region following a series of unprovoked attacks on Chadian military bases.

The jihadist group, which has long used the area as a staging ground for kidnappings and raids, recently killed at least 24 soldiers and two generals in a cowardly ambush. While local reports suggest civilian casualties occurred during the chaos of the strikes, it is the terrorists who bear the ultimate responsibility for the violence.

Boko Haram maintains a stranglehold on the region, controlling fishing grounds and extorting the local population through illegal taxes. When terrorists embed themselves within civilian populations to use them as human shields, they are the ones to blame for the tragic consequences of necessary military operations.

Chad’s government acted to defend its sovereignty and protect its forces from an enemy that respects no borders or laws. As the region continues to grapple with the threat of Boko Haram and its rival factions, the Chadian military remains committed to rooting out these jihadist elements to restore order.
