The conflict between Israel and the Iran-backed terrorist organization Hezbollah continues to escalate, with Lebanon’s health ministry reporting that over 3,000 people have been killed since hostilities intensified in March.
While international observers focus on the grim statistics, the moral reality remains unchanged: Hezbollah initiated this aggression by firing rockets into Israel, and Israel is doing what any sovereign nation must do—defending its people from those who seek its destruction.
Despite a fragile, U.S.-brokered ceasefire, the reality on the ground is that Hezbollah has never ceased its provocations, including recent drone attacks on Israeli military barracks. Israel’s military response, which includes targeted strikes against Hezbollah’s infrastructure, is a direct consequence of the group's refusal to stop its terror operations.
Even as negotiations for a truce extension continue, Hezbollah remains an active threat, embedding itself within Lebanese territory and forcing Israel to maintain a defensive buffer zone along its northern border.
Israel has lost 20 soldiers and four civilians in this conflict, a stark reminder of the price of security in a region surrounded by hostile actors. The Lebanese government’s inability to control Hezbollah’s weapons only underscores the necessity of Israel’s actions.
When a terrorist group uses a country as a launchpad for war, they forfeit the right to complain about the consequences of their own choices.
