The paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have escalated their campaign of violence in Sudan, launching a series of drone strikes that have left scores of civilians dead. According to the Sudan Doctors Network and Emergency Lawyers, the latest atrocity involved a strike on a funeral procession in the city of el-Obeid, which killed at least four people.
This attack is part of a broader, systematic assault that has claimed at least 23 lives since Wednesday. The RSF’s campaign has targeted residential neighborhoods, the airport district, and areas surrounding an army base, with reports of homes collapsing on occupants.
In addition to the cemetery strike, a driver transporting food supplies was killed when his vehicle was targeted on Thursday. El-Obeid remains a critical battleground in the three-year conflict between the Sudanese army and the RSF, as the city’s location in the oil-rich Kordofan region makes it a strategic prize for control of the nation’s resources.
As the humanitarian crisis deepens, with millions displaced and facing starvation, the RSF continues to operate with brutal disregard for human life, turning the region into a graveyard while the international community struggles to address the collapse of order in the country.
