Indonesia is showing the world how a sovereign nation handles foreigners who disregard local laws and act with entitlement. Immigration authorities in Bali have officially banned two Dutch nationals, aged 35 and 37, for organizing an illegal running event without the necessary permits.
The move comes after the duo’s group, Entourage Bali, faced intense public backlash over allegations that they were systematically excluding Indonesians from their events.
The situation reached a boiling point when reports surfaced of an automated registration system that appeared to prioritize Western applicants while rejecting those with Indonesian credentials.
Immigration chief Hendarsam Marantoko made it clear that the government will not tolerate foreigners attempting to operate a 'state within a state.' The two men fled to Singapore before the ban was finalized, but they are now barred from returning to Indonesia.
While the group attempted to walk back the controversy by claiming 'errors' in their registration process, the Indonesian government has rightfully prioritized national sovereignty and the rule of law.
Governor I Wayan Koster has vowed to take strict action against any foreign nationals who engage in unauthorized commercial activities or violate the social order of the island, signaling that the era of unchecked expat entitlement in Bali is coming to an end.
