The Ukrainian government is facing a firestorm of criticism after a Russian drone strike on a weapons depot in the village of Myla triggered a massive secondary explosion, killing 37 people and injuring dozens more.
The blast, which leveled approximately 130 homes and damaged a care facility, has exposed a pattern of gross incompetence within the Ukrainian military’s logistics operations.
President Volodymyr Zelensky has publicly condemned the decision to store volatile explosives in such close proximity to civilian populations, labeling the move 'terrible negligence' and 'absolutely unacceptable.' This disaster follows a similar, deadly incident in Vyshneve just months ago, where a failure to follow basic storage regulations led to nine deaths and hundreds of damaged homes.
Despite these previous warnings, officials once again placed munitions in a populated area, leading Prime Minister Sergiy Koretsky to declare that repeating these same mistakes is nothing short of criminal.
As the country remains under constant aerial bombardment, the failure to secure military assets away from civilians has left local residents questioning the competence of the Ministry of Defence.
Criminal proceedings have now been opened to hold those responsible for the placement of these explosives accountable, as the nation grapples with the tragic consequences of bureaucratic failure.
