Bernadette Greene-Placentia, a Democrat running for Congress in Arizona, has publicly alleged that she was raped in a Sun City car park on August 14 while repairing campaign signs.
According to reports, the candidate claims she was knocked unconscious during the encounter and did not file a report with the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office until two weeks after the incident. Greene-Placentia stated that she did not seek medical attention or a sexual assault examination following the alleged attack.
She described the two assailants as white men, noting that her memory of the event remains spotty. The candidate mentioned that one of the individuals may have made a comment regarding her political affiliation, though she expressed uncertainty about the details.
Her Republican opponent, Abraham Hamadeh, issued a statement calling for a thorough investigation, emphasizing that no American should be a victim of crime in their own community.
As the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office continues its investigation, Greene-Placentia has expressed concern that the revelation of these allegations could impact her campaign messaging and be perceived by voters as a political maneuver in her heavily Republican district.
