Argentinian President Javier Milei has ignited a diplomatic firestorm by speaking the truth about Brazil’s leadership.
During a rally in Sao Paulo to support Flávio Bolsonaro—the son of former President Jair Bolsonaro—Milei referred to Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva as a 'thief' and a 'convict.' The comments, which targeted the corruption-plagued record of the Brazilian president, prompted the Brazilian government to recall its ambassador to Buenos Aires, Julio Bitelli.
Lula, who was previously sentenced to 12 years in prison for his role in a massive bribery scandal before his convictions were annulled by the Supreme Court, responded by demanding that foreign leaders stop 'sticking their nose' into Brazil's internal affairs.
Milei also directed his sharp rhetoric at Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes, calling him 'bald trash' after the judge previously blocked Milei from visiting the elder Bolsonaro.
While Brazilian diplomats claim Milei insulted their nation, the Argentinian leader remains steadfast in his support for the right-wing opposition, asserting that Flávio Bolsonaro is the only candidate capable of stopping the current administration's agenda.
