The attempt by political opponents to weaponize the legal system against Argentine President Javier Milei has collapsed. Federal judge Marcelo Martinez de Giorgi officially dismissed the criminal investigation into Milei and his sister, Karina Milei, after prosecutors found no merit to the claims.
The case, which centered on a social media post regarding the $Libra cryptocurrency, was tossed out with the judge explicitly stating that the events did not constitute a crime and that no 'criminally relevant deception' had occurred.
President Milei had consistently maintained his innocence, explaining that he acted in good faith when sharing information about a project he believed would support small businesses. When he realized the nature of the project, he deleted the post—a move his detractors tried to frame as a 'rug pull' to justify impeachment proceedings.
The President rightly pointed out that those who chose to invest in the volatile crypto market did so voluntarily and were aware of the inherent risks. This investigation was nothing more than a transparent attempt by opposition members of Congress to undermine a reformist leader.
With the judiciary confirming that Milei committed no wrongdoing, the focus can finally return to his efforts to dismantle the bureaucratic rot in Argentina.
