The Alaska Senate race has descended into chaos as federal authorities launch a criminal investigation into an alleged Democratic plot to manipulate the ballot. Incumbent Republican Senator Dan S.
Sullivan and his allies have accused Democrat Mary Peltola’s team of attempting to confuse voters by recruiting a second man named Dan Sullivan to run for the seat.
While Peltola denies any knowledge of the scheme, reports indicate that individuals connected to her campaign and the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) allegedly worked to recruit a retired teacher of the same name to act as a spoiler.
The Department of Justice has begun issuing subpoenas to Democratic officials, and the Trump administration has filed a lawsuit seeking to preserve and segregate ballots that rank the second candidate, arguing that the presence of two Sullivans is a deliberate attempt to deceive the electorate.
Alaska Governor Mike Dunleavy has also ordered an official state inquiry into the matter.
As the race remains a toss-up, the potential for voter confusion in Alaska’s ranked-choice system has turned this contest into a battleground for election integrity, with federal prosecutors now weighing whether the alleged recruitment efforts crossed the line into criminal activity.
