In a rare glimmer of hope amidst a landscape of utter devastation, rescue teams have successfully recovered two survivors from a tunnel more than a week after catastrophic flash floods struck the Nepal-Tibet border. The disaster, which has left a trail of destruction, has already claimed the lives of more than 1,300 people.

The Nepalese army remains on the ground, working through treacherous conditions where massive amounts of mud and debris continue to impede recovery efforts. While these two rescues provide a moment of relief for families desperate for news of their missing loved ones, the scale of the tragedy remains immense.

The search operation continues as authorities push forward in the face of significant environmental obstacles to locate any remaining survivors.
