Bryan Kohberger, the man convicted of the 2022 stabbing murders of four University of Idaho students, is now attempting to withdraw the guilty plea he previously entered to avoid the death penalty.
Kohberger, who was sentenced to four consecutive life terms, is now claiming his original plea was based on 'false promises and blatant disinformation.' The family of victim Kaylee Goncalves rightly blasted the killer as a 'narcissist,' pointing out that Kohberger voluntarily accepted the deal after reviewing evidence for two years and never previously suggested he was coerced.
The Goncalves family noted that the real tragedy is the continued media attention Kohberger is receiving at the expense of the victims he murdered in their off-campus home. Idaho Attorney General Raúl Labrador affirmed his office's commitment to ensuring justice is carried out, despite this latest attempt by the killer to disrupt the legal process.
Legal experts remain skeptical of Kohberger's chances, noting that he swore under oath that his plea was voluntary and based on his own admission of guilt. Courts are historically reluctant to allow defendants to walk back such admissions without substantial proof of a procedural failure, which Kohberger has yet to provide.
